United hold No Fear Boys to a goalless draw
No Fear Boys failed to beat Maphius United in the u.17 league match at Muckleneuk Sports Ground in Mamelodi on Sunday.
Maphius United gained confidence after holding No Fear Boys to a goalless draw in a sizzling u.17 soccer league encounter at Muckleneuk Sports Ground in Mamelodi on Sunday.
United faced No Fear Boys after suffering a humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of Dondol Stars in a previous match. At least a draw with a good team such as No Fear Boys, was enough for United to regain their dignity and confidence to participate with pride in the remaining matches.
On the other hand, No Fear Boys attended the match over confident after the 7-0 victory over Naughty Boys in a previous match. However, the recent match was not a walk in the park for them because they struggled to penetrate a strong Maphius United defence.
Both sides started the match with dedication and eagerness for success. Any of the two teams could have won the match had they successfully converted at least one of their goal scoring opportunities. Both sides created several that went wasted.
No Fear Boys could not find the back of the net despite showing an upper hand over Maphius United with several threatening attacks.
They have themselves to blame for the draw after players like Shaun Modise, Bayanda Pikwa and Ronaldo Dolamo failed to convert useful goal-scoring opportunities.
Within the first ten minutes Modise fired the ball over the woodwork after receiving a brilliant cross from Pikwa, just outside the 18 area box.
Pikwa shot the ball wide when he came face-to-face with Maphius goalkeeper Lucky Mabuza nine minutes later.
In the first 11 minutes of the second stanza, Mabuza saved Dolamo’s poor shot easily. Dolamo failed to score after he had also come face-to-face with Mabuza.
Maphius United also suffered the same fate as players like Lucky Vukela and Stanley Klouw who missed goals in the 25th minute and towards the end of the first half respectively.
Both No Fear Boys and Maphius United will know which teams they will play over the weekend once the Mamelodi Local Football Association releases the fixtures during the week.
