Heuweloord ‘turning into a pigsty’

Residents in Heuweloord have had enough of illegal dumping, and encourage the public to report these incidents to the police immediately.

Residents in Heuweloord are concerned about the escalating rate at which the community is “turning every corner of the area into a pigsty”.

This came to light at a community meeting held recently, where members of the public raised the matter.

One of the residents said dumping was getting out of control and that some of the residents were dumping rubbish right outside other residential homes.

“This has been a challenging issue and we have tried several times to contact the metro about this, but nothing has been done.”

Gruchen Moodley from the Heuweloord Residents’ Association (HRA) encouraged the community to report all illegal dumping incidents to Tshwane immediately.

He said all residents should be responsible for the area and that if a person was caught dumping, others should take down that person’s registration number so that a fine can be issued.

“There is a dumping site in Rooihuiskraal Road where residents can dump free of charge and another one in Mooiplaas, where R34.00 is charged per load.”

Ward Councillor Marika Kruger Muller said dumping in Heuweloord has been addressed numerous times.

“Clean-up actions have been done in the past along Apiesdoring Avenue and next to the community centre, but it seems that the culprits just keep coming back and even the residents in the area are guilty of dumping. This matter has also been raised by myself in a monthly newsletter, and by Jacky Kekane at the HRA meetings.”

She further said she would forward this complaint to the Solid Waste department.

Tshwane was contacted for comment regarding the matter, but no comment had been received at the time of going to print.
