Power in Centurion restored

Power has been restored to most of the areas in Centurion affected by a power outage for the past two days.

The Tshwane metro announced on Tuesday that power has been restored to most of the areas in Centurion affected by a power outage for the past two days. Preliminary reports indicated that the outage was the result of a lighting strike that caused the transformer not to trip during an over-current fault and as a result of cable theft in the substation, a fire erupted on the transformer panels causing damage to the Raslouw substation. Areas such as Raslouw, Monavoni, Sunderland Ridge, Peach Tree and Stone Ridge were affected.

According to Tshwane’s spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, the thieves took advantage of the power failure by vandalising the 11kV cable ring feeders and power restoration took longer than anticipated.

“Some streets in Raslouw and Monavoni are still without power due to this cable theft,” Bokaba said.

“The Energy and Electricity team worked around the clock and in poor weather conditions to restore power,” Bokaba added. “Tshwane apologises for the inconvenience to residents during this time and would also like to take the opportunity to thank residents for their patience and co-operation,” said Bokaba.

Power failure can be reported by smsing the word POWER followed by your account number to 082-612-0333 or by calling 012-358-9999 and selecting the electricity option.
