Awards ceremony motivates

Lethabong High School hosted their matric awards last week Thursday. Learners who exhibited academic excellence throughout the year were rewarded for their efforts.

Lethabong High School in Soshanguve, Block F held their matric awards last week Thursday and the event rewarded learners who exhibited academic excellence throughout the year. The award categories were: diligence , most helpful, school patriotism, representative council of learners (RCL), top four achievers, and overall top achievers.

One of the school’s teachers, Nthabiseng Malefani, opened the awards ceremony with a prayer, followed by a poem from a grade 12 learner, Kgomotso Tlou. A former learner of Lethabong, Lebogang Molebane, gave the learners a motivational speech. She explained that respect was the most important attribute that they should have and that good values were essential. The school also had a special award in recognition for all the good that has been done by an individual. This accolade was awarded to the first principal of the school.

The school gave thanks to their sponsor, Transman. Rebecca Dick, daughter of Transman CEO Angela Dick, accepted a gift from the school on behalf of her mother. “The Department of Education came to us three years ago and asked us to adopt Lethabong. We basically came up with projects to help the school become more sustainable. A sustainable environment is essential for learning,” she said. Dick is the public relations and marketing officer for Transman.

Grade 12 learner, Andile Molokomme, received most of the awards. She walked away with eleven medals and certificates, and was announced as number one in the top four achievers awards.

“I feel humbled and blessed, because in the end I am not only doing it for myself, I am also doing it for my family. They are working so hard with the little that they have and the least I can give them is good results,” said Molokomme.

The principal of the school, Zebulon Serwadi, said the reason they host the awards every year is because they use the event as motivation and inspiration for the current grade 11 learners to work harder than the previous group. “We are looking at a better pass rate for next year, so this is motivation on its own,” said Serwadi.
