The spirit of ubuntu
The boys of WHPS showed they cared when they took part in the school's Fill a Bag project, which donated food parcels to the less fortunate.
A long production line formed in the halls of the Waterkloof House Prep School (WHPS) in Brooklyn recently as pupils packed food bags for distribution. The project was carried out by every pupil in the school and was in line with the school’s values of being appreciative said marketing manager, Alison Redgate. “The project is part of our wanting to give back to society, hence we decided to take part in the Fill a Bag project.”
WHPS believed that the boys should not only donate much-needed items and money, but they also needed to be actively involved in each project. “Every grade donated food items for the bags. We also let the boys write a message to show they care on each bag. The production line allowed each and every boy in the school to take part in the sorting and packing of these bags.”
The bags included white mealie meal, peanut butter, white kidney beans, red speckled beans, sugar, salt, soya mince and samp. These bags will be donated to Father Tim Lowes of the St Francis Anglican Church and he will distribute them to the relevant communities. “In the spirit of ubuntu, we believe that it is the collective responsibility of the whole group to become involved in any way they can,” Redgate added.
