0% matric pass rate for Midrand school

An independent school in Midrand was Gauteng’s only school to receive a 0% matric pass rate for the National Senior Certificate examinations of last year.

Boulders Techno School, an independent combined school in Midrand, was Gauteng’s only school to receive a 0% pass rate for the Basic Education National Senior Certificate.

“The poor pass rate is based on the pupils not being able to grasp the system. They all come from different institutions and joined Boulders Techno School to do their matric. Most of our learners are not A-students,” said the principal and managing director, Prince Sinamane.

However, the school managed to get a 67% pass rate in 2012. “Our first matric class was in 2012 and they passed really well. Unfortunately, with the class of 2013, we only spent a year with them and they could not cope with the system,” said Sinamane.

Sinamane explained that three of the matriculants would be writing their supplementary exams next month. “Those that are writing their supplementary exams only failed two subjects and will be taking the exam to improve their marks,” he said.

The Techno School, which teaches 100 students at a school fee of R1 800 per month, prides itself in being ‘South Africa’s first e-techno school’. “We offer the normal Basic Education curriculum blended with the Cambridge International Examination curriculum and we use technology to make learning easier,” said Sinamane.
