Residents in Amandasig are terrified after the area has been hit by a crime wave over the past two months.
Rufus Lodi and his wife, Mabel Mmakola, who are residents of this area, were victims of crime after four gunmen fled with R350 000’s worth of cash and valuables after holding the couple at gunpoint. A mere two months after this traumatic experience, three gunmen broke into their property and held their housekeeper at gunpoint.
Lodi said him and his wife were busy getting their children ready for school on Wednesday morning when they heard a commotion outside.
“When the housekeeper went outside the three gunmen held her at gunpoint indicating she should go back inside the house. She was screaming the whole time,” he said.
The housemaid continued to yell until the men fled. Lodi and his wife immediately went to find help from their next door neighbour.
“This time was worse than the first incident because my children were home at the time. We are just thankful that no one got hurt again.”
Lodi said he is worried about the safety of his own family and others in the area.
This case follows a week after a mother was also held at gunpoint in Amandasig, wearing only a towel when three gunmen broke into her home while she was taking a bath.
Monhlannhna Mokhwesana (37) who is three months pregnant, tried to escape from the bathroom window when the criminals stopped her and locked her up, still only wearing a towel, in the domestic quarters.
The three men ransacked her home and got away with jewelry and equipment worth thousands of rands.
Captain Riana van Aarde, spokesperson for Akasia police station said the police are aware of every case and are considering every piece of evidence for their investigations.
