IEC gearing up for elections
As the 2014 National General Elections are coming up, the Independent Electoral Commission is gearing up their staff for the day.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is in the process of preparing for the 2014 National General Elections taking place on 7 May 2014. According to spokesperson Kate Bapela, the IEC is currently training electoral staff until the last week of April.
Items such as the printing and distribution of ballot papers are currently in the preparation process. “This includes procurement and distribution of election material, printing and distribution of the relevant segments of the voters’ roll, finalisation of candidate lists and for the National Assembly and provincial legislatures and inspection of candidate lists at IEC offices,” Bapela said.
The trained electoral staff include observers who will talk to voters in general and visit voting stations to observe processes of a free and fair election. “For the elderly and disabled that did not apply for special votes, voting station staff are trained to prioritise them at stations to ensure they wait as short a time as possible,” said Bapela.
