Two arrested with explosives

Police arrested two men in Pretoria with explosives, these men were allegedly on their way way to blow up the safe of a business in Limpopo. A third suspect is still at large.

Two men were recently arrested for the possession of explosives as well as a stolen motor vehicle at the corner of Eskia Mphahlele and Mitchell Street, police said on Thursday.

According to police spokeswoman Captain Pinky Tsinyane member of the Pretoria K9 arrested the two men, both aged 30, on Thursday at 19:00.

“It is alleged that members spotted a suspicious gold BMW with two occupants at the filling station. The driver was trying to pull away when the police stopped him,” Tsinyane said.

Police searched the vehicle and recovered commercial water gel explosives, balaclavas, old clothes and car keys.

According to  Tsinyane police received information that the two men were on their way to blow up the safe of a business in Limpopo.

“On further interrogation, it was found that the car keys which was found in the car belonged to a stolen blue Audi. The Audi was found parked between Thabo Sehume and Paul Kruger streets.  Police also recovered a stolen white Toyota Hilux, in one of the suspect’s residential area in Centurion. Preliminary investigations revealed that there is a fourth vehicle that was driven off by a third suspect from the same filling station. Police are hoping to make an arrest soon, investigations continue.”

The arrested men face charges of possession of explosives and stolen motor vehicle and were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate Court soon.
