Police are looking for four suspects that robbed Pick n Pay in the Tramshed shopping centre in the CBD on Thursday morning, 1 May of thousands of rands.
It is believed that the suspects pretended to be bakery workers and gained entry into the centre’s delivery bay.
“The four armed suspects found the cleaner and security guards at the store. They locked them up in the back of the delivery truck and went to the store manager’s office,” police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto told Rekord.
He said that when they got to the store manager’s office they pointed a firearm at him and demanded the keys to the safe. “The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene using the delivery truck. The truck was later found on the corner of Johannes Ramokgoase and Du Toit Street, not far from the store,” Moloto said.
It is believed the suspects then changed vehicles and abandoned the delivery truck.
No arrests have been made yet and a case of robbery has been opened by the police.
