Golf day for a good cause
Some of Pretoria's elite recently came together to support charity by taking part in a golf day.
Local celebrities recently enjoyed a round of golf at the Woodhill Country Club in support of a good cause.
Pretoria celebs like Arno Jordaan, Bok van Blerk, Altus Theart and sportsmen like Grant Hattingh, Jacques Engelbrecht and Breyton Paulse threw their weight behind the Truckers Unite Golf Day, which took place on 8 May at the Woodhill Country Club.
The goal of this worthy initiative, hosted by Pierre Spies, was to raise funds for the Be The Hero Foundation.
The proceeds will be distributed to the foundations’ beneficiaries, Club 21 and Pathways-Pretoria. Club 21 is a non-profit learning centre that empowers and develops children with Down’s syndrome, while Pathways-Pretoria is a centre supporting and educating pupils with moderate to severe disabilities.
“It’s important for all us to be involved somewhere, we can all do something. People with disabilities often get overlooked and I’d really like to change this. They need our love and support,” says Spies.
Not only will a state of the art school be developed, but provision has also been made for empowerment projects and a feeding scheme, so that the school becomes completely self-sufficient with employment opportunities to match. A ‘green’ approach is being taken to the development, using only earth-friendly materials to ensure a healthy relationship with our environment.
“We believe that this will not only uplift people, but will leave a legacy and enable people living with disabilities in South Africa to reach new heights,” said Erika Basson, the foundation’s spokesperson.
