Man shot in attempted hijacking

Police said a Silver Opel Corsa with four alleged hijackers opened fire on a delivery vehicle on Tuesday as they tried to hijack the vehicle.

A man was shot and seriously wounded by hijackers in Hans Strijdom Drive in Silver Lakes on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to police spokeswoman, Captain Sarah Mcira, the man and his colleague in their a delivery vehicle was followed by a silver Opel Corsa ar around 12:30.

It is believed the driver of the Corsa tried stop the delivery vehicle in an attempt to hijack the vehicle. The four men inside the Corsa opened fire after they failed to stop the vehicle.

The driver of the delivery vehicle escaped the shooting unharmed but his colleague was shot in both his arms and legs.

According to Netcare 911 spokeswoman, Santi Steinmann, Netcare 911 and other emergency services responded to the incident where they found the injured man in a serious condition.

“The injured patient was treated on scene before being rushed to hospital for further care,” Steinmann said.

Mcira said no arrests have been made yet.

“We are investigating a case of attempted murder as well as attempted car hijacking,” said Mcira.
