Suspects at large after Boschkop murder

Two suspects are still at large after they robbed, shot and killed a shop owner in Boschkop, police said.

Two suspects are still on Tuesday at large after a shop owner was shot and killed in his home during a robbery in Boschkop, police said.

This happened when a customer allegedly entered Charlie’s General Dealer to buy maize meal on Monday morning just after 10:00. “The lady at the back of the counter opened the security door for the customer to pick up the maize meal. The customer them grabbed her and tried to strangle her,” said police spokesperson Captain Marissa Van Der Merwe

The other suspect allegedly went through the shop to the owner’s house at the back and entered the main bedroom where the owner, Charles Groenewald (76), was sleeping in bed. “Groenewald was attacked in his bedroom where shot were fired between him and the suspects. Groenewald was injured in his chest and died on the  scene after paramedics arrived to treat him,” said Van Der Merwe.

The suspects fled the scene and are still at large. “One of the suspects was later found dead on the gravel, with a shot wound in his stomach. Anyone who can help with information regarding this incident can report to the Boschkop Police Station on 012 802 1084,” Van Der Merwe said.
