American students robbed at gunpoint
American students were held at gunpoint when four suspects robbed them in their tour bus in Pretoria, police said.

A group of 30 American students were robbed at gunpoint while they were sight-seeing in Pretoria, police told Rekord on Wednesday.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Neville Malila, the students were travelling by bus on Sunday morning when the bus driver was flagged down by four people on motorbikes on Eeufees Road. “One of them commanded the driver to stop by using a firearm. Once the driver stopped, the other suspects jumped into the bus and robbed the students and their tour guide,” he said.
Cell phones and American currency was taken from the students before the suspects fled the scene. According to reports, passports and electronics were also taken. “No arrests have been made. We have opened a case of armed robbery and the investigation continues. The number of firearms the suspects possess is currently unknown,” Malila said.
According to reports, the students from Stevenson University majored in criminal justice. It is alleged that the students are set to return to America on Wednesday. “The university made the decision to cut the five-week tour short to ensure their well-being. The students are for the most part reluctant to come back, but we do not know how they’ll be reacting to this later,” Glenda LeGendre, the university’s spokesperson reportedly said.
It is alleged that a second tourist bus was also robbed in Pretoria over the weekend. “There is no other robbery of a tourist bus. It was only the American students,” Malila confirmed.
