During the election period the Pretoria West police along with other role players arrested 26 people for various crimes. The crime operations were held during and after the elections.
According to the station commander, Colonel Caroline Naidoo, the criminals were arrested for crimes such as general theft and assault to do grievous bodily harm, fraud, common assault, and armed robbery among others.
“Although the Pretoria West area did not experience any voting-related violence during the 2014 general elections, the crime in the area is increasing,” she said.
Naidoo said two people were arrested for fraud, seven for common assault, one for non-compliance, six for general theft, one for armed robbery, one for drunken driving, one for carrying a pistol and a magazine with six rounds, one for carrying a dangerous knife, one with a blood kit, and three others for carrying pistols without magazines and rounds; 14 940ml of alcohol was also seized.
In view of all the criminal activities taking place in the are, the police urge community members to be vigilant with regard to crimes such as armed robberies, hijackings, and house and business robberies.
“Pretoria West police will ensure that Community members are safe. The police also appeal to the community at large to report any crime in their residential and business precincts,” Naidoo said.
