The police managed to arrest a 31-year-old man for house robbery on Tuesday evening in Pretoria Gardens with the help of the community.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, the house that has been robbed belongs to one of the officers stationed at the Hercules police station. Warrant Officer Martin Smith works in the detectives’ department,
“Smith’s daughter was alone at home when she suddenly heard footsteps in her father’s bedroom. She went to the bedroom to check as she thought her father was probably home. When she arrived there, the suspect attacked her.”
Msimango said that the suspect grabbed the officer’s daughter by the neck but she managed to free herself from his grip.
“She said she hit the suspect with a broom but he managed to flee the scene with her father’s cell phone.”
Msimango said that the suspect was later arrested through the good work of the community who was cooperating effectively with the police to curb crime in the area.
He said that it has not yet been established how the suspect gained entry into the officer’s house, but everyone is safe.
“A case of house robbery has been opened and the suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate Court shortly,” Msimango added.
The police encourages all communities to cooperate with them to curb crime in their respective areas.
