A house robber was recently found hiding in the ceiling of the house in Lyttelton he was trying to rob, police said on Thursday.
Police spokesman, Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu, said the robber was spotted in the ceiling by the owner of the house.
“The neighbours suspected something was going on in their neighbour’s house when they saw an unknown man entering the yard at around 09:00 on Wednesday morning.
The neighbours phoned the man and when he arrived he found his house in a mess with electric appliances and other valuables scattered around,” Gumbu said. He then called the police.
“When the police arrived, they found the suspect hiding in the ceiling and arrested him,” said Gumbu.
Gumbu urged members of the public to be the eyes and ears in their neighbourhood and to alert the police whenever they suspect something.
The arrested robber is expected to appear in court on charges of house robbery and theft shortly
