Gun-wielding man arrested
The Eersterust and Villieria police have once again impressed by clearing the streets of criminals and getting them successfully sentenced to prison.
A gun-wielding man was recently apprehended by the Eersterust police after he pointed it at and threatened an Eersterust resident. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested on the corner of Terry and Magardie avenues for the possession of a stolen firearm. Constable Sam Shibambo, spokesperson for the Eersterust police, said the victim reported the incident to two patrolling officers before the officers gave chase.
When the officers spotted the suspect they ordered him to stop, but he threw the firearm down and fled on foot. They pursued him and managed to apprehend him. During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the firearm was stolen during an incident of theft out of a motor vehicle a few weeks ago. The suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
The Villieria police also received very good sentencing for the criminals they helped put behind bars. Suspects received various sentences, including three years for the possession of stolen property, eight years for armed robbery, four years for robbery and three years for business robbery.
Colonel Lerato Mashego from the Villieria police said that some of perpetrators also received hefty fines and sentencing for the possession of drugs, drunk driving, assault with intent to do grievously bodily harm and business theft.
