Children held at gun point

More than six suspects held three children at gun point in front of their mother.

Three children, aged between five and 14, were held at gunpoint in front of their mother on Wednesday morning at the Irene agricultural holdings.

According to Monitor Net’s Etienne Louw and Martin Siebert the incident occurred around 07:00 the morning. “The suspects entered the house almost half an hour later after the father of the children went to work. The children were getting ready to go to school,” Louw said.

The eldest son went outside when one of the robbers grabbed him, held his gun against the boy’s head and walked with him inside the house.

His two sisters were also grabbed and held at gun point. Their mother was bound. “The boy said there were between six and nine men,” Louw said. Siebert said the criminals stole electronic equipment such as cell phones and a laptop and fled in the family’s vehicle.

The police, however, retrieved the vehicle just up the road. “It is unknown why they took the vehicle,” Louw said. The family told Louw and Siebert their dogs were restless the previous night as they kept barking.

According to Louw the family is traumatised about what happened to them, especially the youngest daughter.

Police was not yet available for comment.
