Nineteen arrested for various crimes

The police in Hercules have been hard at work, arresting 19 suspects over the past weekend.

Crime in Hercules is being tackled, with police recently making 19 arrests. Along with the community, they have been working hard to curb crime in the area. The suspects were arrested for crimes including fraud, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of dagga and others.

Among the arrested suspects are two women, aged 24 and 32, who were arrested for being in possession of fraudulent train tickets. “The two were arrested at the Daspoort train station access point on the Friday. Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman was arrested after a tip-off from members of the community that she was selling dagga from her home,” police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said. The woman was found with 32 match boxes filled with dagga on Saturday in Boekenhoutkloof.

Msimango added that a 28-year-old man was arrested in the same area after stabbing another man with a knife and biting him on the stomach. “In another incident, which occurred on Saturday, a 30-year-old man was arrested for stealing chocolate worth R8. He was caught on the CCTV camera.”

Msimango said that through their hard work and with the help of the community, they were ridding the area of criminal elements.
