Police arrested suspects for various crimes during the weekend.

Suspects arrested during the weekend appeared on Monday in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court while three house robbers are expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

According to Hercules polices station spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, 21 suspects were arrested during the weekend.

“The suspects were arrested for several charges ranging from house break-ins, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, dealing in illegal liquor, illegal immigrants and other crimes.”

Msimango mentioned that they arrested two males aged 22 and 27 and a female aged 23 at Lady Selbourne.

“According to information the owner of the house left for work and when the owner returned home at 14:00 he found the door open and a plasma TV, a laptop and cell phones were stolen.” Msimango said the stolen items were worth R22 500.

He said in another incident three shebeens were closed down and the owner arrested for selling illegal liquor.

“Two suspects, a 52-year-old and 40-year-old were arrested at Gomora squatter camp and another suspect, a 19-year-old was arrested at Zama-Zama. The suspects were arrested during a police operation at the squatter camps.”

Msimango said during the weekend a man was wounded when he tried to stop two people from fighting. The man was hit with a brick on the knee. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

In terms of crime in the area, Msimango urged residents to join forces with the community policing forum (CFP) and sector police.

“People must work with the CPF and community patrollers to ensure a quick response to crime in the area. People should take part in the fight against crime in the community.”
