A man is due to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court after he was caught stealing cables at Mall@Reds, police said on Tuesday. According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ilze Jones, the suspect was spotted by a security company that was patrolling the area.
She said the incident occurred at around 03:55 and the suspect was caught with copper cables and a battery that was used for a back-up generator. The stolen cables, including the battery, are valued at around R15 000.
Rekord contacted the centre manager, Natasha van der Merwe, who confirmed that an arrest had been made. However, she declined to comment further, as the matter is under police investigation.
