Worker’s bravery led to the arrest of a burglar
The quick response of a domestic worker led to the arrest of a robber.
A domestic worker’s bravery led to the arrest of a burglar after he gained access to the house and shoved her into a room in the house in Doringkloof where she worked.
The suspect then took items worth R40 000, but was arrested on the scene after the worker contacted the owner who alarmed the police and security company.
The worker was alone at the home when the incident happened.
According to police spokesperson, Warrant-Officer Hero Gumbu, the incident occurred around 12:30 on Monday afternoon.
“The worker was busy working in the house when an unknown suspect entered the house and approached her from the passage. He grabbed her and pushed her into the nearest room which he then closed,” Gumbu said.
The worker heard the intruder’s footsteps in the house and when she opened the door she saw him in the kitchen. The suspect again grabbed her and shoved her into the bathroom. He did not lock the door.
The worker then send a text message to the owner alerting her of the situation.
The police was notified and arrived at the house just as the intruder left the house with the stolen goods. He was apprehended and the stolen items, worth R40 000, retrieved.
The suspect was also in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Gumbu also said “Criminals sometimes use vehicle hiring company’s vehicles to commit crimes.”
The suspect has been linked with other housebreaking cases, Gumbu confirmed.
