Two suspects from Mnandi have been arrested for stealing metal-fence poles and electrical cables, MonitorNet told Rekord on Wednesday.
According to Nico Chrisostomou from MonitorNet, the suspects were caught while he was patrolling the area.
Chrisostomou said he was patrolling the area when he came across two men in possession of electrical cables and metal fence poles.
“I approached the men as I was suspecting something could be wrong when I saw what they were carrying. I asked them where they got the goods and they said they got them from a farm. I then took them to a business premise nearby where the owner confirmed that the men were her employees and that they stole it from her,” Chrisostomou explained.
Rekord contacted the employer of the suspects who confirmed that a case of theft had been opened against them.
She said the two suspects, who are in their 30s, have been working for her for the past three years and that she is not sure if this was the first time they stole from her.
“If it wasn’t for the security guard from MonitorNet who was patrolling the area and caught them, I wouldn’t have known that two of my employees were stealing form me,” she said.
The Olievenhoutbosch police were not immediately available to confirm the arrests at the time of going to print.
