A man linked to numerous cases of jewellery theft at properties on show was arrested on Tuesday afternoon at the Midstream Estate.
According to police spokesperson Ilze Jones the police has a strong suspicion that the 33-year-old suspect can also be linked to cases of theft that have been opened at the Wierdabrug, Lyttelton, Midrand and Olifantsfontein police stations.
Jones said the security guards at the Midstream Estate contacted the police after they recognised the man from a previous incident of theft the week before that was reported to the Olifantsfontein police.
The suspect targeted properties on show which he viewed with estate agents. He stole small valuable items when they left him unguarded.
Jones confirmed a number of similar thefts had been reported at the Wierdabrug police station in the past month.
One of the cases was opened for Tania Viljoen, a resident of an estate in Eldoraigne, who claimed a man who viewed her home stole jewellery, including a ring worth R80 000, from her bedroom during a house viewing.
The police are investigating all the cases to see if the are connected.
The suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate Court on 29 May.
