Wanted criminal arrested

Two arrested for fraud, one with 11 cases against his name.

A man, with 11 pending cases against him, and his apprentice were arrested for ATM fraud-related crimes at the Celtis Ridge Shopping Center in Heuwelsig on Friday afternoon.

According to Etienne Louw from MonitorNet, this company along with The Protea Coin Group and Scorpion Risk Services, caught the suspects in the act while they were skimming ATM cards at the center.

The security officers were made aware of the suspects’ whereabouts and they followed them from the Sasol fuel station on the R55 to where the suspects were operating.

A skimming device, R4 000 in cash, 16 fake bank cards and two large knives were found in the men’s possession. The vehicle that the men used was rented from a local rental company.

Both men were from Daveyton, Benoni.

According to Louw, the same vehicle, carrying the suspects, was operating in the area for quite some time and was spotted a few times by people in the vicinity.

On the same day, another two suspects, age 24 and 36, were also arrested.

According to police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma, the police were called for assistance at Mall@Reds around 16:00 where a bank manager showed them two suspects who allegedly used fraudulent bank cards.

When the police searched them they found several bank cards in their possession and skimming devices in their vehicle.

The men appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate Court on Monday.
