Police officer kills girlfriend and then himself

An alleged lovers’ strife recently turned into a blood bath when a police officer shot a woman and then himself. Oupa Monaheng (47), stationed at the Akasia police station, shot and seriously wounded his girlfriend in Mabopane Block A on Monday morning before shooting and killing himself.
His girlfriend, Elizabeth Ngwato (45), is still fighting for her life in the George Mukhari Hospital.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, told Rekord that Monaheng went to his girlfriend’s home where he shot her.
It was reported that Monaheng arrived at Ngwato’s house where he walked into the yard. Ngwato was apparently hanging laundry and ran into the house when she saw him. Monaheng allegedly followed her into the house and fired four shots.
Reportedly, Monaheng’s girlfriend had a restraining order against him at the time which he violated by going to her home.
Monaheng, who had been working for the police for 19 years, allegedly shared a son with Ngwato.
Kweza said police are investigating an attempted murder case.
