Sixty-two now behind bars

Unwanted criminals are now off the streets due to a joint operation In the Wonderboompoort area by local authorities.

A joint effort in the Wonderboompoort policing area has secured the arrests of 62 criminals on various charges.

The operation took place under the command of the Office of the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Major General Phumzo Gela. The operation included support from Lieutenant Colonel Letta Kgoadi (Wonderboompoort police station commander), station members, Gauteng K9, radio control and the Tshwane metro police.

The the arrests ranged from theft, assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drugs and stolen copper cables.

“Other arrests include urinating in public, intoxication, drinking in public, pedestrian a source of danger and three illegal immigrants,” Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier, spokesperson for the Wonderboompoort police, said.

She said that seven fines amounting to R4 000 were also issued for traffic violations.

Some of the drugs that were confiscated during the joint operation included dagga, crack cocaine, CAT and heroin.

Confiscated goods ranged from a stolen municipal dustbin to water taps, a side cutter, credit cards, money, two weapons and rounds of ammunition.

Olivier said that 22 police members and 11 vehicles were deployed by Major General Gela to help safeguard and rid the Wonderboompoort policing area from unwanted criminal elements.
