Victim shoots one of his robbers

Police are searching for three suspects after one was shot by his victim during a robbery in Pretoria central.

Police are searching for three suspects after a man was robbed in Pretoria central. According to police, one suspect was arrested after he had been shot by the victim during the robbery.

“At 18:00 on Tuesday evening the victim was nearing the corner of Sisulu Street and Bloed Street when four suspects approached him. They grabbed his laptop-bag, which had his laptop, searched him and took his wallet which contained money and credit cards,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Ann Poortman.

The suspects then allegedly pushed the victim to the ground. He managed to pull out his firearm and fired shots at the suspects. “One of the suspects was shot and injured in the left shoulder and the other three fled the scene,” said Poortman.

Paramedics and emergency services were called to the scene where they treated the injured suspect. “Upon our arrival at the scene, we found a man in a critical condition. He was treated on the scene and rushed to hospital for urgent medical care,” said Netcare 911 spokesperson, Santi Steinmann.

“We arrested the injured suspect and he is currently under police guard at the Steve Biko Hospital. We are investigating a case of common robbery, as well as an attempted murder case against the victim as this is state procedure until we receive a statement from the injured suspect,” Poortman said.

Anyone with information about the incident or the three suspects can report it to the Pretoria Central police on 012-353-4000 or 012-353-4059.
