Iron lady of the Moot ready to turn ward 58 upside down.
Elma Nel is a mother, business woman, and if that is not enough, she has now been elected councillor for ward 58.
This iron lady from Mayville is determined to turn her ward upside down and give it the face-lift it deserves.
With 48 years of life behind her name and three grown children, Nel is ready to face anything that is thrown her way.
Although Nel is a newcomer when it comes to politics, she is no fool to what her community wants.
“I have spent my entire life in the Moot. I know what residents want, because I am one of them. I understand their problems because I too face the same challenges. I want us to unite our efforts in changing the face of ward 58 and transform it into a place we can be proud of,” she said.
Nel said her top priority is to combat crime in the area. Since heading the hot seat, she has met with various role players to discuss the way forward and start to put plans into motion.
The community projects that she is currently working on include the successful implementation of the Avodazz, a annual festival in Capital Park, and the safeguarding of Church Square.
“We are still in the planning phase regarding Church Square, but we want to transform it into a place where everyone from all walks of life can go and have a good time. We want to make it safe for everybody,” Nel said.
Uniting the communities lies close to her heart and come hell or high water she will face the odds and proclaim victory over her areas.
