New bridge to relieve traffic

New bridge in Wonderboom plans to alleviate traffic congestion.

Construction will start on a new bridge on Lavender Road in Wonderboom later this year and promises to alleviate traffic congestion.

The new bridge will be constructed almost next to the current bridge on Lavender Road leading traffic to and from Pretoria North., will start construction later this year.

The project that is divided into two different phases, will start later this year and will be completed in 2015.

According to Councillor Dana Wannenburg, the construction on the first phase of the project, which is a slipway road from Paul Kruger Road, that will lead to the new bridge, have already started in April this year.

The current Lavender Bridge, which currently provides two way traffic towards Die Poort, will after the new bridge have been constructed, become a two road one way bridge towards Die Poort.

The new bridge will then provide a two road one way bridge from Paul Kruger Road towards Wonderboom Junction.

The construction on the bridge is planned to start later this year and will to be completed in 2015.

Wannenburg said the bridge will alleviate traffic congestion that has been experienced throughout the years.

“This project has been coming from a long way back and plans to provide traffic relief. The original Lavender Bridge is too narrow to handle the high traffic volumes,” he said.

He also said due to the fact that the bridge is next to the current Lavender Bridge, the construction will not affect the traffic which is already highly congested due to the A Re Yeng construction.
