One out of five criminals re-arrested

Police are requesting the community to assist in finding four dangerous criminals after they escaped.

One of the five dangerous suspects who had escaped custody last month was found and re-arrested after police received a tip-off from a member of the community, police told Rekord.

Sipho Mpostoli Mthethwa was found in Tembisa on Wednesday. “He is currently in police custody and he is facing an additional charge of escaping from custody. The other four suspects are still at large,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

Police are requesting the community to assist in finding four dangerous criminals after they escaped while being transported to Modderbee Prison in the East Rand after their court appearance at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.

“These suspects are still at large. Even though they escaped from the East Rand, these criminals are moving around so they can be anywhere. People of Pretoria can help us in finding these criminals,” said Dlamini.

Muzi Sambula, Alex Maake, Sipho Edwin Mzimba, Mkhulu Ndlovu and Sipho Mpostoli Mthethwa escaped through the roof of a truck after they appeared in court.

“Police who were transporting them were alerted by a member of the public who indicated that there was a problem at the back of the truck. On inspection, one of the prisoners was found on top of the truck,” said Dlamini.

He added that the criminals were considered dangerous and appeared in court for violent crimes including murder, armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms, business robbery and hijacking.

“We urge members of the public with any information to contact the police. These escapees should not be confronted as they were considered armed and dangerous,” Dlamini said.
