Woman beats house robber

An alleged house robber is in hospital under police guard after he was beaten by a woman when he broke into her home.

A suspected house robber is currently in hospital under police guard after he was beaten by a woman when he allegedly broke into her home in Ga-Rankuwa, police said.

According to police spokesperson Captain Riana Van Aarde, the suspect entered the home at 03:00 and threatened one of his victims. “There were two women in the house and one of them was in her room with her 5-month-old baby. She woke up and saw this man standing in her room. The suspect demanded cell phones and bags or else he will hurt her baby. He then pointed a screw driver at the baby,” she said.

Another woman, who also lives in the house, came into the room after the first woman screamed for help. “She saw this man trying to rob them and with extreme bravery, this woman started hitting the man. The suspect tried to flee but the woman followed him outside and she jumped on him and continued to beat him while screaming for help. Fortunately at the time, two men heard the screaming and went to help and apprehended the suspect,” said Van Aarde.

Police were called and the suspect was taken to George Mukhari Hospital where is under police guard. “We are investigating a case of house break-in. We would like to commend the woman for her extreme bravery,” Van Aarde said.
