Gang initiation warning a hoax

Residents are urged to look out for a hoax letter that is allegedly from Chubb security, which warns motorists against gang initiations.

Security company, Chubb is warning the public against a circulating hoax letter warning residents against being victims of a gang initiation. According to the letter, that is allegedly written by Chubb, motorists are urged to avoid flashing their headlights at a car with no headlights on, as this is part of a new gang member initiation.

“This is a hoax that we have been trying to squash for years. This letter has been circulating for the past eight to ten years and it is not true. If you look at the letter, it uses our old letterhead and it was signed by someone that no longer works for Chubb,” said Chubb’s national spokesperson Alison Bull.

The letter states that the initiation is for a new member of the Bloods gang. The new gang member under initiation drives along with no headlights, and the first car to flash their headlights at him is his ‘target’. He is now required to turn around and chase that car, then shoot and kill every individual in the vehicle to complete his initiation requirements.

“This has never happened in South Africa. The Bloods gang is not even a South African gang, but an American gang. This letter is causing a lot of problems for the company. We have distanced ourselves from this letter as it is not true. We urge the public to be aware of this hoax letter,” said Bull.
