Total of 20 arrested for various crimes

Police in Pretoria are working hard to curb crime in their respective areas of policing.

The Pretoria West police managed to arrest 20 suspects for different crimes committed in the area.

According to Pretoria West police station spokesperson, Constable Lerato Ngomane, six people were arrested for theft, one for malicious damage to property, twelve for the possession of dagga and one for being in contempt of court.

“On Friday we managed to arrest eleven suspects for being in possession of dagga. We found 17 dagga parcels wrapped in a newspaper, 10 bags of dagga, 16 snatches of sealed heroine (Nyaope) and one rock pipe,” Ngomane said.

Ngomane said the suspects were detained at the Pretoria West police station and will appear in court soon.

At the Hercules police station, 15 suspects were arrested. According to Hercules spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, one suspect was arrested for drunken driving, three for theft, one for the possession of drugs, four for public drinking, one for a pedestrian source of danger and five for walking drunk in the street.

Msimango also mentioned that on Friday a community member played a big role in stopping two criminals from stealing two vehicle at the post office in Van der Hoff Road.

“On Friday Enricho Jordaan stopped criminals from stealing vehicles at the post office in Van der Hoff Road. Jordaan was at the post office when he noticed two men opening two vehicles. He called on the community for help.”

He said that the men fled in a white Toyota Yaris which was chased until the PPC cement plant in DF Malan Road by community members and the community policing forum.

“The suspect then got out of their vehicle and fled the scene by foot when they saw they were cornered. Police then seized their vehicle. A case of attempted theft of a motor vehicle is being investigated by the police,” Msimango said.

Msimango also mentioned that on the same Friday, while police were patrolling at night, they stopped a vehicle that was driving against the traffic flow. When the police stopped the vehicle they found that the driver was drunk and he was arrested.

Msimango said that he would like to thank the community and Jordaan for the role they played in fighting crime and making sure that criminals did not get their way.

“We appreciate the community’s participation and the fact that they acted before the police arrived at the scene. We ask that they keep it up,” he concluded.
