Rapist behind bars

Previously convicted rapist behind bars for repeatedly raping another woman in Mayville.

A convicted rapist is yet again behind bars after the Wonderboompoort police arrested him last Wednesday for raping a woman in Mayville.

The man who was previously sentenced to ten years imprisonment was apprehended by Warrant Officer Heinrich Jansen van Vuuren and Sergeant Jaco Breetzke. They saw the man and woman fighting in a public park on the corners of Fred Nicholson Street and Bruyns Avenue. When they investigated the matter, the woman alleged that the man had repeatedly raped her.

“The woman comes from KwaMahlanga and was apparently looking for work. An arrangement was made between the victim’s sister and the suspect to grout tiles. On their way to Capital Park, the suspect allegedly pulled the woman into the bushes and raped her,” Warrant Officer Wanda Oliver, spokesperson for the Wonderboompoort police, said.

The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s court soon.

In a separate incident an officer’s son also became another statistic of fraudulent crime when a female suspect stole his and a friend’s cellular phones.

“The suspect approached the children to sell them some clothes. She asked them to put their phones in an envelope and hide it away in their schoolbags. When she left, the children took out the envelope only to discover that their phones were replaced with dirt and pieces of old cellular phones,” Olivier said.

One of the phones was a brand new Samsung S5.

A case of theft has been opened.

The police urged every child and adult to constantly conceal their valuables to prevent theft. “Never take out your cellular phones and hand it over to any person, even if they tell you that they have an emergency or want to look at the time. Especially children are warned not to send messages or talk on their phones in public places.”
