Road users complain about the state of a road

“Since I moved to this area two years ago, I had to repair my vehicle a few times."

Several residents in Mnandi have raised concerns about the state of Mnandi Road. According to Louise Viljoen, who uses the road on a daily basis, most vehicles that drive on the road need to be repaired regularly.

Viljoen told Rekord that every day when she takes her child to school she worries about her vehicle being damaged.

Rekord visited the area and it was established that the tarred road ends on the corner of Monument and Charles roads.

“Since I moved to this area two years ago, I had to repair my vehicle a few times. It seems as if no one cares about the state of the road. When it rains, it becomes even worse as more sand is washed away. I do not know who to contact about the matter. And since we are only a few people who are concerned, it will be pointless to sign a petition and send it to the municipality,” explained Viljoen.

She further said the road was graded about twice a year and that the dust was regarded as a health threat to the people who were using the road.

Another concerned resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said the metro did not care about the tax payers. “I always wonder if this area is ignored because it’s situated next to the farms. Perhaps the residents should come together and upgrade the road themselves. We are tired of complaining about the road which was not fully tarred.”

Ward 77 councillor, Cedrick Tsela, was contacted but his phone was on voice mail. An inquiry was also sent to the metro to find out how they plan to resolve the matter.
