Man kills girlfriend on highway

Police have opened a murder case after a man shot and killed himself after shooting and killing his girlfriend on the Mabopane Highway on Friday morning, police said.

Another man shot and killed himself after shooting and killing his girlfriend while travelling on the Mabopane Highway on Friday morning, police said.

The tragedy occurred when a man followed his girlfriend who was travelling with another man towards town near the Ruth First off-ramp. According to police spokesperson Captain Riana Van Aarde, two people were left dead and one sustained serious injuries.

“The man followed his girlfriend and then shot and killed her. He also wounded the driver of the car they were travelling in. He then shot himself and passed on in the ambulance on his way to the hospital,” said Van Aarde.

The wounded driver fled the scene and after arriving at the Akasia Police Station, he was transported to George Mukhari Hospital.

“He was shot in the upper body and is in a serious condition.” said Van Aarde.

Earlier this month, another love story turned into a bloody tragedy when police officer, Oupa Monaheng from the Akasia Police Station, shot and seriously wounded his girlfriend from Mabopane. It is believed the couple had argued shortly after the police officer went to her house. Upon finding her outside hanging the laundry, Monaheng allegedly followed her into the house and fired four shots at her.
