Morning visitations at hospital terminated

No more morning visitations for patients at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

The decision to cancel all morning visiting hours at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital has not been taken lightly.

The hospital has decided to terminate the 11:00 to 12:00 visiting hours in an attempt to improve patient care and provide more parking for out-patients.

Dr Ernest Kenoshi, chief executive officer, said that the afternoon visiting hours have been extended by 30 minutes from 14:30 to 16:00. The 19:00 to 20:00 remains unchanged.

“Doctors and other health professionals will have more time during the day to attend to the in-patients without bumping into visitors, and patients will be able to be served their lunch meals without any interruption,” Kenoshi said on the advantages of the time slot changes.

He said another advantage include that the nursing personnel will have more time to administer medication and other nursing procedures to in-patients during the day, when patients are most in need of such care.

“Out-patients will be afforded more parking spaces on the hospital premises because no visitors will compete with them for parking bays,” he said.

The time slot adjustments will take effect from 30 June and all visitors and patients are advised to take note and revert it to their loved ones.
