Speak up against violence
At this moment someone somewhere is hiding a either a physical or an emotional scar caused by their abuser.

In South Africa regardless of race or cultural background many children, women and even men are being abused daily. At this very moment someone somewhere is hiding either a physical or an emotional scar caused by their abuser. Often the voices of victims are afraid to speak out and stay in silence out of fear for their abuser.
Should the victim decide to leave the abuser they must do it when the abuser is not home, they should take their children with them and have their bag ready at the neighbours house, if they left in a hurry the police will be available to accompany the victim to obtain their belongings from the residence but it is best to always have an emergency plan ready which includes having access to a phone, having hidden money and all their cards at their disposal.
If one decides to go to the police station they will be able to wait in the, victim-friendly room where statements can be given in a secure, private environment. If police are called out to a scene they will do everything they can and take the necessary steps to protect the complainants from any further harm. In the case where there is a reasonable believe that an act of violence took place, police will and can arrest the offender without a warrant.
Police, if at all possible will help the victim to obtain medical help, shelter and counselling. Domestic violence does not just include physical abuse it includes intimidation, harassment, sexual misconduct, damage to property, stalking and emotional abuse. Victims can further protect themselves by getting a protection order against the offender. The protection order will prevent future harassment, embarrassment and abuse from the offender.
