Residents urged to be vigilant
Further information points to the suspect having followed one of the residents from the local shop back to his home.
Residents in Heuweloord are urged to be vigilant at all times. This was revealed after a recent incident when a man was followed home by an armed man while walking from the shop.
According to Mike Kidson, managing director of ADT Northern Region, it seems as if the suspect followed the resident while returning from the local shop late in the evening.
Fortunately one of the residents alerted ADT seeing that someone was moving around their property in Wilderperske Street.
After being briefed where the suspect had been seen, ADT reaction officers located and arrested a male suspect, who was carrying a 9mm pistol, hiding in the garden, according to the statement released by ADT.
He said people should be vigilant at all times. ”If you think that you are being followed, you should stop somewhere safe and call your security service to escort you. When you are driving, drive to your nearest police station,” he advised.
Police were not immediately available to confirm the arrest and the reports.
Sector 3 Wierdabrug Community Police Forum chairperson, Hannes du Buisson, said they are concerned about the level of crime in the sector and that criminals must know the community in sector 3 is tired of crime and criminal activities in their area and they will assist the police and other crime fighting organisations at all times to ensure a safer community.
