Criminals robbed the offices of the director of public prosecutions at Church Square of four laptops in the early hours of Saturday morning, police said.
According the Central police spokesperson, Sergeant Ann Poortman, a man who was wearing a security guard’s uniform similar to those of the security guards who were providing security at the offices knocked at the door. One of the guards thought the man was one of their own since he was wearing the same uniform.
“When the security guard opened the door, another two men stormed in. One of the men was armed with a firearm,” Poortman said.
The robber pointed the firearm at the guards.
Police said there were a total of three guards in the building who were all tied up by the criminals before stealing the laptops.
“The criminals cut the cables that protect laptops from being stolen and ran away,” the police said.
The police opened a case of armed robbery.
The suspects are still at large and police are investigating the matter.
Police urged people with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to report it to the police. “We urge residents who know the whereabouts of the suspects to contact our detective service,” Poortman said.
