Firearms and car found, three arrested

Three suspects were arrested after a tracking company traced the suspects when a car was stolen in Soshanguve, police said.

Three suspects are facing charges of possession of suspected stolen vehicle and unlicensed firearms after they were arrested at a tavern in Temba, north of Pretoria, police said.

According to police, the suspects were apprehended at 23:30 on Monday night after they stole a white VW Polo during a house robbery in Soshanguve, which was traced by the tracking company.

“The tracking company received signal after the stolen car case was opened in Soshanguve. The tracking company went to trace the vehicle and found the suspects at KK Tavern in Stinkwater, Temba. Police were notified and the tracking company managed to describe the suspects and what they were wearing to the police,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Llifi Ramatlo.

Upon their arrival, police managed to arrest the suspects after they tried to flee the scene. “They tried to escape but the police and the tracking officials chased them and we managed to arrest them. Upon searching the car, we found two 9mm pistols, a .38 revolver and six rounds of bullets. We also found four cell phones,” said Ramatlo.

The suspects, aged 29, 30 and 33, are expected to appear in court soon. “They are currently in police custody and face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. This case is also linked to the house robbery in Soshanguve so we have included a charge of robbery,” Ramatlo said.
