Police are searching for nine heavily armed suspects aged between 29 and 45 years after they robbed the Grindrod Limited storage warehouse in Rosslyn, Akasia of several brand new Nissan cars on Wednesday morning, police said.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi, the suspects, who were all armed, some with rifles, entered the premises at 03:00 and tied up two security officers that were on guard. “They apparently threatened two security guards that were on duty, tied them with ropes. They went to the storage warehouse and found three Nissan NP300 and two NP200 vehicles. They then managed to start the cars and drove off,” said Nkoadi.
As all the cars were brand new they have not yet been registered on the National Traffic Information System (Natis). “This means that it will be more difficult to locate the vehicles, however, the police will use other methods and measures to trace these vehicles,” Nkoadi said.
No injuries were reported. “Fortunately no shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident as the security guards complied with the suspects. We are on a manhunt for these people and have opened a case of armed robbery. Anyone with information regarding these suspects or anyone who might have noticed the incident is requested to contact us on our crime line 08600 10111 or our SMS line 32211,” said Nkoadi.
