Cash robbers strike again

Members of the public are cautioned to be extra vigilant when leaving the bank, especially if they are carrying a large sum of money.

Police have warned members of the public to be extra cautious when leaving the bank, especially after withdrawing large amounts of money. This was the warning after a recent incident outside the Midrand Complex when a man was robbed of a large amount of cash.

According to police-spokesman Constable Matome Tlamela the incident was captured on video by a security company and posted on Facebook. It shows a white Mercedes pulling up behind another vehicle.

Two men climbed out of the Mercedes and one of them walked towards the passenger’s side of the other vehicle and pointed a firearm at the driver. The video further shows the money being taken from the driver and the suspects running back to their vehicle.

Tlamela confirmed that such cases were rife in the area. People should also be aware that the culprits often drive expensive vehicles.

“We caution members of the public not to drive alone when they are transporting large amounts of cash. They should arrange to be escorted. Always be on the lookout for vehicles who may be following you, and if you see anything suspicious, call the police immediately,” Tlamela said.

Police said the men were on their wanted suspect list but no arrests have been made yet. An investigation is underway.

Rekord attempted to contact the security company that captured the incident on video but without success.
