Crime buster’s success in the west of Pretoria

Forty people were arrested over the weekend for, among others, malicious damage to property, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, pointing a firearm, theft, drunk and driving and contempt of court.

The Police in Hercules and Pretoria West have over the past weekend made a clean sweep in the area arresting 40 suspects for various crimes ranging from dagga possession, theft, assault, contempt of court and fraud.

According to Pretoria West police spokesperson, Constable Lerato Ngomane, the Police flying squad arrested seven suspects on Friday for being in the possession of dagga.

“The suspects were brought to the station by the flying squad after they were arrested in the area.”

Last week the police also arrested 12 other suspects for being in possession of dagga.

One suspect was arrested on Friday for theft. Other arrests over the weekend included malicious damage to property, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, pointing a firearm, theft, drunk and driving and contempt of court.

“The woman who was arrested for being in contempt of court violated a protection order against her. The protection order was granted after a case of domestic violence was opened against her,” Ngomane mentioned.

Hercules police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango, said that they arrested 25 suspects. Among the arrested were three males aged 19, 29 and 30 and a woman aged 41 who were arrested for drunken driving.

“Police on routine patrol arrested a 40-year-old man for the possession of drugs at Booysens on Friday. A woman aged 38 and two men aged 32 and 33 were also arrested for the possession of drugs at the Gomorrah informal settlement. A community patrol apprehended two suspects aged 26 and 28 at Daspoort on Friday night after found in possession of a table and a chair. After realising they were cornered, they drop the stolen properties and attempted to run away, but members of the community apprehended them.”

Msimango added that a 40-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were arrested for shoplifting at a store in Bougainville. The two stole a packet of tablets and Revlon Foundation products in separate incidents.

Police urged community members to keep working with then to fight crime in the area.
