Man and vehicle attacked in road rage incident

A resident from Pretoria West was a victim of road rage after another motorist assaulted him and damaged his vehicle.

Road rage has become a problem in Pretoria West and community members are looking for a way to reduce this challenge permanently.

This came after a resident of the area became a victim of road rage recently on the corner of Qwagga and Transoranje roads.

“We cannot have such incidents in the area. Although the resident apologised, his vehicle was damaged and he was assaulted,” Sanco chairperson, Nagesh Chetty, said.

According to the resident, who wished to remain anonymous, he was on his way to work in his company vehicle when he was attacked.

“The robots on the corner of Qwagga and Transoranje roads were out of order. It was my turn to cross the intersection and this guy drove right in front of me. I gave him ‘the look’ and he suddenly stopped and got out of his vehicle.”

The resident said the man approached him and started banging against his company’s vehicle. He apologised but he man would not listen and ripped the handle from his vehicle.

“The man kept on banging against the vehicle so I opened the window slightly to apologise and talk to him but he tried to put his hand through the window,” the resident said.

He said when the man took his hand out, he closed the window and was ready to drive off. The man threatened him and suddenly went back to his vehicle.

“I thought he was leaving when he suddenly came back with a knobkierrie and started smashing my vehicle. I managed to overtake him and drove away.”

The resident said that an eyewitness called him after the incident and gave him the man’s number plate.

“I went to the police and gave them the man’s number plate and I still have not heard anything from them. We do not need this kind of behaviour in the community,” the resident said.

Chetty added that people should be considerate and drive carefully.
