40 suspects arrested

Police arrested 40 suspects in the west of Pretoria over the past weekend.

The Pretoria West police arrested 40 suspects during the past weekend, 19 on Friday alone.

“On Friday, two suspects were arrested for theft, one suspect for armed robbery, one suspect for travelling on a train without a ticket, ten suspects for a pedestrian source of danger, one suspect after a warrant of arrest was issued, two for public indecency and one for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm,” Pretoria West spokesperson, Constable Lerato Ngomane said.

She added that during the weekend six suspects were arrested for being in possession of dagga, another six for drinking in public, one suspect for malicious damage to property, eight suspects for illegal railway crossing and one suspect for theft.

“Members of the community, especially students, are urged to avoid travelling without tickets on trains. It is a crime to travel without a ticket and people get arrested for this on a daily basis,” Ngomane warned.

The police were working tirelessly to fight crime in the community and needed the community’s assistance in the fight against crime, the police said.
