Mortified daughter wants justice
A distraught daughter whose father was shot is looking for justice after he later died in hospital.
The heartbroken daughter of the Malawian doctor who was recently shot and later died after allegedly being followed from a local bank spoke out about how she almost accompanied her father on that fateful day.
Felinet Kafautamva said she almost went with her father to the bank. She said that her family, especially her mother, is devastated since the tragedy hit.
Her father, Dr Erton, a radiologist at Dr George Mukhari Hospital, was apparently followed and shot on 6 May after withdrawing a large amount of cash from a bank in Pretoria North.
“My father and I spoke on the morning that he was shot. We spoke about my future plans and he also asked me to go to the bank with him but I decline,” Felinet said.
She described that the police came to their house later that day to tell them that her father had been shot and is in a critical condition at the Akasia Hospital.
Erton died a month later due to injuries caused by the shooting.
Felinet said she was very close to her father and that the reality of his death still has not sunk in.
“There are moments throughout the day that I realise that my father is gone.”
She said her mother is also currently still in shock and is mourning the death of her husband.
A 48-year-old man was arrested on 12 May in Tembisa in relation to the murder.
He recently applied for bail at the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court but the case was postponed till 14 August.
Felinet said she hopes that the other suspect are caught and the law will take its course.
“When I look at the one suspect that has been arrested I do not feel anything. I wish he would be found guilty and pay for what he has done.”
On the day of the incident three suspects followed Kafautamva from the bank and stopped behind him and blocked his vehicle after he stopped at a local business about two blocks from the bank.
According to the investigating officer on the case, the three suspects jumped out of a silver VW Polo and held Kafautanva at gunpoint.
The suspects then allegedly forced the victim into their vehicle and drove off while stealing R100 000 and shooting Kafautamva and threw him out of the vehicle and drove off.
