Petition to stop cable theft
With residents of Centurion suffering because of cable theft, they are now urged to sign a petition to stop the bizarre copper cable attacks.

A petition against cable theft was started in order to get the government to intervene as cable theft is rampant in Centurion.
This comes after residents of Saxby Avenue were left in the dark on Monday due to cable theft on Sunday night. It is believed that another case of cable theft was reported in the area on Tuesday morning, however, further information was not yet available.
The petition was started by the Wierdabrug sector 3 community policing forum (CPF) at 05:00 on Tuesday morning and already has 416 signatures. According to Wierdabrug sector 3 CPF chairperson, Hannes du Buisson, the aim of the petition is to request government to put penalties in place for scrap metal dealers that trade in illegal copper cables.
“As you know, we have been suffering from cable theft for quite some time now. These cable thieves are also stealing communication cables such as telephone lines and are selling it to scrap metal dealers. What we want to achieve with the petition is to convince government to put stiff penalties in place to make it difficult and impossible to trade in illegal copper,” he said.
Du Buisson urged members of the community to spread the petition across the country to ensure a large number of signatures.
“Cable theft is a national problem that troubles the whole country. The government should appoint a task team to deal with this issue. We are aiming for as many people as possible and we hope that each and every citizen of this country will support this petition to put pressure on the government,” he said.
People who would like to sign the petition can do so by logging onto https://www.petitions24.com/stop_cable_theft. The petition also offers an anonymous option for those who do not wish to have their signature shown on the website.
“The community must understand that if we do not get sufficient support, cable theft will continue. We plead with the community to
sign the petition and spread it to other parts of the country so we can start this process,” said Du Buisson.
